Stuff.co.nz – It would appear Justin Bieber is not immune to high school rejections after suffering an epic fail on his first two showings in Palmerston North, despite being the most popular adolescent on the planet.
His movie Never Say Never hit the big screen yesterday, and if it wasn’t for the incessant screams of the “beliebers” on screen, you could have heard a pin drop in that theatre – not because the Palmerston North variety were watching with bated breath, but because they weren’t there.
Never Say Never screened to an empty theatre at its first showing, while the
next after-school session at 3.30pm attracted 15 people.
The movie, which follows the Canadian teen singing sensation throughout his 2010 concert tour, has grossed well over NZ$100 million at the worldwide box office in the 13 weeks it has been showing.
Downtown Cinemas manager Kaye Hendricks said yesterday the complex was waiting for the “beliebers” to come out in full force over the weekend and the school holidays.
So far, pre-booked ticket sales have been low, but Mrs Hendricks said children usually just turned up at the time of the screening to buy tickets.
More than 500 tickets pre-sold to the premier midnight screening of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part One, in November last year, many to high school students who had an NCEA exam the next day.
But compared to the loyal Harry Potter diehards, the slightly younger generation of beliebers may have a more difficult time in getting their parents to sit through it too.
Never Say Never is available to audiences in 3D as well as 2D

Several locks of Justin Bieber’s hair are being sold on internet auction site eBay by Ellen DeGeneres for charity. The auction is due to close 2 March (Mar 02, 2011 10:32:26 PST) so get your bids biebes in!
The pop star recently had his famous locks cut and they are now listed on the internet auction site with the current top bid well over $10,000
The locks are being sold by Ellen DeGeneres who received some of his hair – which is encased in a Plexiglas box that has been signed by the ‘Baby’ singer – as a gift when he appeared on her talk show this week.
As he handed the strands over to Ellen – who had previously written on her twitter page that she wanted some of his hair – he said: “That’s my hair. I’m giving pieces of it to different people. We’re doing something special. We want you to donate it to whatever charity you want to.”
Ellen is donating all proceeds from the auction to animal rescue foundation The Gentle Barn.
Justin decided to change his trademark hairstyle ahead of his 17th birthday next Tuesday (01.03.11).

It’s likely that this year’s Grammy Awards will be best remembered for the triumph of underdogs in key categories. Indie artists Arcade Fire took home the Album of the Year prize for The Suburbs, beating out best-selling discs by Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Lady Antebellum and Eminem, while jazz vocalist Esperanza Spalding unexpectedly beat out Justin Bieber, Mumford & Sons, Drake and Florence and the Machine for Best New Artist.
The ceremony was packed with memorable performances this year. Here’s a look at some of the highlights.
Top nominee Eminem won Rap Album for Recovery and Rap Solo Performance for “Not Afraid,” though he was shut out in every other category. Jay-Z won two awards — Rap Song for “Empire State of Mind” with Alicia Keys, and Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for “On to the Next One” with Swizz Beatz.
In the rock categories, Paul McCartney won Solo Rock Vocal Performance for the live recording of “Helter Skelter” on his Good Evening New York City album, while Neil Young’s “Angry World” won for Rock Song and Muse’s The Resistance won for Rock Album. The Black Keys took home two Grammys – Rock Performance by a Duo or Group for their song “Tighten Up” and Alternative Music Album for Brothers.
It should come as no surprise that Lady Gaga’s performance of her new single “Born This Way” was the evening’s most visually stunning and bizarre spectacle:
Bob Dylan joined Mumford and Sons and the Avett Brothers for a medley of acoustic numbers including his classic “Maggie’s Farm”:
Mick Jagger made his first-ever live appearance at the Grammy Awards with tribute to the late Solomon Burke backed up by Raphael Saadiq and his band:
Whereas most everyone else on the Grammy stage went big and bold, Lady Antebellum opted for a stripped-down, understated medley of Teddy Pendergrass’ “If Don’t Know Me By Now” and their hits “American Honey” and “Need You Now”:
Cee Lo Green put on what could be the night’s silliest and most colorful performance with a rendition of his song “Fuck You” — err, “Forget You,” sorry — decked out in a peacock suit and backed up by Gwyneth Paltrow and a stage full of puppets from the Jim Henson Company:
Arcade Fire performed two songs at the ceremony — a blistering version of “Month of May” with a bunch of guys riding around on bikes, and “Ready to Start” after they won for Album of the Year:

Esperanza Spalding has become the victim of a web attack launched by angry Justin Bieber fans (Belieber’s).
The little-known jazz bassist and singer, 26, took home the Best New Artist award last night at the Grammy Awards despite 16-year-old Justin being favourite to scoop the gong at the prestigious music ceremony.
Following the jazz artist’s surprise win, false statements and taunts have been added to her Wikipedia page by frustrated fans of the pop sensation.
After a sentence noting her triumph, for example, a user added the statement; “Justin Bieber deserved it go die in a hole. Who the heck are you anyway?”
Other comments – which were posted before being quickly removed – included the singer’s middle name being changed to “Justin” and “Quesadilla”.
Esperanza’s Grammy win was written up with the addition, “Even though no one has ever heard of her! Yay!” At the end of her biography one hacker wrote “Biber 4 Lyfe.”
Justin’s unexpected loss at the music event left him disappointed.
But unlike the Wikipedia user fans, he showed no bitterness backstage at the event. He also asked his fans to remain calm after he missed out on the prize.
“I had no clue what was going to happen; I worked really hard these past few years and you know, I’m not going to lie – I was disappointed,” he told MTV News after the winner had been announced.
“I’m inspired to work harder than I did last year. Bieber fans, don’t get too upset.”
Asked for comment on the Wiki rage, Spalding’s rep told CNN that is was “a shame, really. Justin [Bieber] was very, very nice. They met at the AP booth…he was very gracious and they had a nice chat.”
Bieber, despite his disappointment, was the perfect gentleman when he met Spalding backstage at the awards bash – they even complimented each other on their hairdos:

Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber are both approaching a major milestone of the new music industry: one billion all-time YouTube views.
Lady Gaga should pass one billion views around October 20 if she continues on her current pace, according to David Birch, communications director at TubeMogul. During September, she averaged almost 1.8 million views per day.
Birch says Bieber will surpass the 1 billion views milestone around November 1 if he keeps up his current pace. During September, Bieber’s videos were viewed about 3.7 million times per day.
Even though Lady Gaga will be the first to the one billion mark, TubeMogul data shows that lately Bieber has been the hotter of the two and has been YouTube’s most-viewed music artist. From July 1 to September 28, according to TubeMogul data supplied to Billboard, Bieber averaged 3.98 million daily views to Lady Gaga’s 2.04 million views per day.
Bieber has been hot since winter. Since February 28, Bieber has averaged 3.83 million daily views while Lady Gaga has averaged 2.53 million.

“I’ve got a lot of surprises for you tonight,” Justin Bieber promised fans at the start of his sold-out, first-ever headlining concert at Madison Square Garden (Aug. 31)– and he wasn’t kidding. Everyone from Miley Cyrus, Sean Kingston and Jaden Smith to Boyz II Men, Usher and Ludacris joined the 16-year-old pop phenom onstage for a show frantically paced and carefully calibrated to hold the attention of his tween army.
The surplus of guest appearances was no coincidence. Bieber’s MSG show was being taped for his upcoming 3-D biopic (“Everyone in this audience is gonna be in my movie!” he told the crowd), and the singer appropriately pulled out all the stops for the cameras. After kicking off his under two-hour set with the Cardigans-inspired “Love Me” — from his debut album “My World,” released less than one year ago — Bieber introduced Boyz II Men to assist him on new single “U Smile,” which this week marks his highest debut to date on Billboard’s Pop Songs chart (No. 33). Bieber then returned the favor by introducing a new generation to Boyz II Men’s hit ballad “On Bended Knee,” singing it with the group a cappella. “These people are the ones who made me want to start singing,” he explained, dedicating the song to his mother.

Justin Bieber has overtaken Lady GaGa’s video ‘Bad Romance’ for scoring the most hits on YouTube.
The 16-year-old’s single ‘Baby’, featuring Ludacris, has clocked up more than 250 million hits, usurping Gaga into second place with 247.6 million views.
The singer thanked his fans on Twitter before praising his rival, adding: “I just need to say that @ladygaga is an incredible artist who have great respect for. And her vid is incredible.
“Thank you all for caring. Just want you to know I care too and I’m just a normal kid. Thanks.”
