Slash is coming to Australia for a headline show in Melbourne to launch MTV Classic and his new record.
That new album features collaborations with Ian Astbury, Izzy Stradlin, Dave Grohl, Duff McKagan, Chris Cornell, Iggy Pop and Andrew Stockdale, so it’s fair to suspect that the show won’t be a live recreation of the record with Slash joined on stage by all of his friends.
However it’s not just high profile guests that will be lacking from the show; Slash will also be playing without his trademarked ciggie hanging from his lip.
Slash has quit the cancer sticks, but he told FasterLouder recently that since quitting smoking he has developed a new addiction: Twitter. http://twitter.com/Slash “It’s more addictive than smoking, I found that out the other week…It’s such a stupid f**king name though.”
Recent posts include “”U can’t strum a Jelly fish.”- Patrick” and photos like this one “Backstage before the gig at the Roxy. R & Fn’ R! Iiiii|; ), http://tweetphoto.com/18021477 ” (got to love his smiley face with the top hat in his tweet)

Malcolm McLaren, the former manager of the Sex Pistols and the man hailed as the godfather of punk, has died from cancer. He was 64.
McLaren recruited three local kids who frequented his Kings Road boutique — now called “Sex” — Glenn Matlock, Steve Jones and Paul Cook, and dubbed them the “Sex Pistols.” He first tried out Jones on vocals, but soon found a more suitable provocateur. As Charles M. Young wrote in his 1977 RS Sex Pistols cover story, “One of the regulars at Sex was a kid named John Lydon, who was distinguished on three counts: 1) his face had the pallor of death; 2) he went around spitting on poseurs he passed on the street; and 3) he was the first to understand the democratic implications of punk — rather than pay ten pounds for an ugly T-shirt with holes in it, he took a Pink Floyd T-shirt, scratched holes in the eyes and wrote I HATE over the logo. McLaren stood him in front of the jukebox, had him mouth Alice Cooper’s ‘I’m Eighteen’ and declared him their new lead singer. Jones noticed the mung on Lydon’s never-brushed teeth, and christened him Johnny Rotten.”
McLaren amped up the new band’s notoriety with a stunt that featured the Pistols performing “God Save the Queen” on a barge during the same week of the Queen’s Silver Jubilee. McLaren was arrested before the stunt was pulled off, but the single immediately topped the British charts. After releasing Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols, the band embarked on a tour of the U.S. and ultimately split. For years, McLaren and Lydon fought over the Sex Pistols’ copyright and royalties in a rift that was never healed.
Later in his career, McLaren became a well-known musician in his own right. His 1983 hip-hop-flavored album Duck Rock produced the U.K. Top 10 singles “Buffalo Gals” and “Double Dutch.” A year later, McLaren also had a hit with “Madame Butterfly,” a song inspired the opera of the same name. McLaren’s “About Her,” a remix of the Zombies’ “She’s Not There,” was featured in Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill 2. A punk renaissance man in the truest sense, McLaren was also an author, film producer and reality TV star.

KISS Coffee House Melbourne is set to open on New Years Eve according to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald.
The unintentionally hilarious investor proposal states that “KISS CoffeeHouse – Melbourne is the ultimate brand synergy between the hottest band in the world, KISS, and the highly caffeinated, coffee entrepreneur, Steve Agi.’’
Agi plans to spend $1.5 million revamping the vacant Tea House next to the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre and need to find a few more KISS fans to help him raise $5million bill to cover all costs, including the brand licensing.
Potential investors are promised amazing perks including:
* An invitation to meet KISS and ‘’other celebrities that are part of the KISS entourage’’.
* Membership of the KISS Army.
* Input into the design of the premises.
* First option to take a share in subsequent KISS CoffeeHouses.
* Special VIP invite with five friends to all VIP events, including the grand opening and appearances by KISS.
* Rare KISS merchandise and paraphernalia, ‘’signed personally to the investor.’
The proposal makes several ambitious claims, including a first-year return of between 5 and 10 per cent, and that the value of the $250,000 investment will ‘’double after 12 months’’. It also claims a ‘’risk of failure at ZERO’’.
The Sydney Morning Herald report sagely notes that these claims are “not backed up by financial estimates, costings or an independent report”.
It’s not a totally insane venture; the original KISS CoffeeHouse in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, has been successfully selling “rockuccinos” and “rockiatos” in two sizes – gold and platinum – to American tourists since summer 2006.
